For Rural Communities & the Hidden Burden of Poverty
Intercessor:
Our Creator God spoke blessing over all of creation and promised His loving presence to the ends of the Earth. Whether in cities, deserts, gardens, villages, or rural lands, “in Him we live and move and have our being.” Trusting in His presence among every people and every place, let us pray for the Church and for the world.
Lord of fields and forests, of small towns and long roads, we remember before You communities far from city centers where poverty runs deep and quiet.
People:
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Intercessor:
You know the farm families and day laborers, the elders in isolated houses, the children on long bus rides, and those with few jobs, limited transportation, and scarce access to clinics and schools. Have mercy upon all who feel forgotten, isolated, or overlooked.
People:
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Intercessor:
Provide nourishing food, dignifying work, good teachers and mentors, faithful neighbors, and wise local leaders. Sustain the churches, schools, farms, businesses, and community organizations that quietly labor for the good of these communities.
People:
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Intercessor:
Inspire Your Church—country parishes and city congregations alike—to see rural neighbors not as scenery or mission projects, but as fellow members of the Body of Christ, bearing gifts to share and wisdom to offer. Teach us to receive from one another with humility and love.
People:
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Intercessor:
Call young adults, families, and older saints to serve in rural schools, clinics, churches, farms, and local communities. Guide policy-makers and business owners to invest in ways that honor both the land and the people who steward it, rather than exploiting either. By Your Holy Spirit, enlarge our vision of Your Kingdom, that as faithful disciples of Jesus we may cultivate places where Your love takes root and transforms—renewing individual lives, strengthening families, restoring communities, creating healthy institutions, and bearing witness to the hope of Your new creation.
People:
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Intercessor:
Let springs of shalom rise in out-of-the-way places, that in these quiet corners Your kingdom may be seen and known, and communities may flourish in the light of Your love. Through Jesus Christ, who often chose quiet places to pray, who fills all creation with His presence, and who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
People:
Amen.
